Version 1.6 adds the possibillity to create patch list files.

Version 1.5 fixes a bug in 1.4 that seemingly trashed some (all ?) version 1.1 patches. I also added a batch conversion button.

PatCon can assist in upgrading pre 210 nord modular patches into 301 format. Well not exactly true, but read on ...

This is a PC program, for the Mac community I can only offer the conversion algorithm(in Borland's object Pascal)

The program is mainly a pch file browser, but it has three buttons to do the version upgrading for you.

The first one, upgrade to 210 will convert the selected patch file to 210.

The second button, upgrade to 301, starts with the same thing. But after conversion it will open the patch in the 3.0x editor. From there you can save the patch to complete the conversion process.

The third button, upgrade all to 210, will convert all the patches that are visible in the rightmost listbox into 210

It is also possible to dubble click a patch file in the browser, this will convert the patch to 301.

Suggestions on how to use PatCon

So how does one use this tool, my suggestion is that you open the modular editor 301, then you start PatCon and search for a patch that you want to convert. Double click the patch so it will be ugraded from whatever to version 2.10 (hopefully not downgraded, but the program does a basic security check for this condition). After conversion the patch will be sent to your editor, when you save it there it will be upgraded to versio 3.0.

Alternativly you could choose to only upgrade the patch to 210. In this case you don't have to open the nord modular editor, and you will have to click the 'upgrade to 210' button (instead of double clicking the patch).

After the patch is converted the version display will read 210, this is a known problem that is not easily fixed. If you want to be sure whether the conversion succeeded you can click some other patch, and then back to the patch you want to be sure of. The version number will then be re-read from the patch and should reflect the actual patch version then.

The first time that you try to use the modular editor from the PatCon program, you will be asked to supply a filename for the editor program to use. You can use the Browse button to point PatCon to your modular editor program (which usualy is c:\Program Files\Clavia\Modlar editor 3\ModularEditor3.exe). You can also click the Options button to set the modular editor.

When you want to send a patch to the modular editor without upgrading it you can click the Edit button.

What does it do to you patches

The version string in the patch header is set to 210.

type 51, Filter E needs an extra control sometimes, it will be added then.

type 60, the envelope follower from 110, is converted into type 71, the current envelope follower.

type 66, the control signal mixer needs an extra control sometimes. it will be added then.

type 93, the old inverter from 110 does no longer exist, it is converted into type 66, a control signal mixer - with some appropriate settings selected.

type 94, the Stereo chorus, needs an extra control sometimes. it will be added then.

type 95, the PercOsc, needs a few extra controls sometimes, they will be added then.

Version 1.1 patches did not always (never ?) have an item Retrig= in the header section, when such a line is not found it will be added to the end of the header section. Patches that do not have this item will show up empty in the version 3.03 editor
